Weekend Update 9-12-20

Dear M100 Family,

Wow!  What a week!  We made it - the students have done a terrific job this week!   Please continue to engage in masking and distancing practices so that we can all stay healthy and continue to work with one another in person!

ALL -CARPOOL OPTIONS

For anyone who doesn’t have transportation to after school rehearsals…

We have some generous volunteers who can give you a ride.  We are a true BAND FAMILY and we are there for each other!   THANK YOU VOLUNTEERS!

*Please email all these people to ask if anyone can help you.

Names and emails are listed here:  https://www.beltonmarching100.com/carpool-volunteers

(Password is M100)

ALL -FANNY PACKS / COORDINATE SHEETS

We have started drill!  All students (except Pit) were issued an M100 Fanny Pack for the season.  Needs to be returned or pay $5 at the end of the season.  Each one is numbered and numbers were recorded per student.

COORDINATE SHEETS - these sheets hold the information for setting the drill on the field.  Students need to keep these in the fanny pack (along with their own personal chalk for marking sets).  If the student loses their coordinate sheet, we will have them available on our website - Students Tab (password M100).

ALL -FOOTBALL GAME DAY PLAN - NEW THIS YEAR

A little different plan this year due to COVID.

UNIFORMS - students will take their uniform home the week of the game, not before.  They will return it to the band hall the next day they are present at school, as soon as they can, after the game.  Why….

  • Since we are only at home games this year - students will arrive at school fully dressed in uniform, having already eaten a healthy dinner at home, and ready for inspection outside.

(this will be different for Colorguard - Mr. H. will advise)

  • This will be detailed properly as there are some groups who will need to access the band hall prior to inspection - Guard, Percussion, Sousaphones, anyone who’s instrument is in the band hall….

  • What if my child is at school the day of the game and can’t get home to eat, didn’t bring food to eat, can’t get to a restaurant to get something to eat….please reply to Mrs. Cobb’s email for these special situations.  We can provide some meals if needed.  We are trying to avoid mass feedings in the commons due to COVID.

  • We will not assess a meal deal fee this year as we will not be feeding the students before games.  IF the boosters buy your child a meal due to a special circumstance, you will be billed in Charms (miscellaneous fee) accordingly.  Mrs. Cobb will have details.

  • Students will not be asked to meet at school for getting instruments or inspection before 6pm for games so they should have sufficient time to get home and return if they have transportation.

  • If your child is at home on the day of a game (due to Hybrid schedule) and does not have transportation to the school for the game, please email the CARPOOL VOLUNTEERS listed above.  If no one can help, email shannon.gill@bisd.net.  I will do everything I can and am allowed to do to help!

  • A detailed itinerary listing arrival time, required uniform, game process and procedures, and release time and location will be shared closer to the game day.  Just know that students will need to be at school around 6pm and won’t be done until around 10:30 or 11pm typically on home games.

  • I do not have information regarding ticket sales.  For that information, please email samuel.skidmore@bisd.net OR perhaps there is some information on a BISD Athletics page?

FOR THE FIRST GAME - 9/25/20

IF the weather is warm - we will go to the game in HALVES.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?!

HALVES= Black Bibbers (the uniform pant), long black socks, marching shoes, & M100 Jersey.  This is a cooler option and also spares our uniform just a bit for the long season.  (no shako)

IF the weather is cold - full uniform, minus the shako

More details to come in our DETAILED ITINERARY closer to the week of the game.

ALL - NEXT WEEK - SEPT. 14-18

ALL students will be expected to log in to ZOOM for your band or Guard class at BHS during its scheduled time if you are not on campus on any Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday.  ALL members will be required to log-in to Schoology on Wednesdays for a “Check-IN”. You’ll see instructions on what to do with the Wednesday Check-In in Schoology in your particular class. This is for ALL students, whether you are classified as “Remote” or “In-Person”.

ON-GOING:

ALL BAND AND COLORGUARD STUDENTS

According to our Administration at BHS - YOU MAY ATTEND BAND/COLORGUARD CLASSES EVERYDAY (except Wednesday while we are on the Hybrid model) if you can get to BHS, attend that appropriate band or colorguard class, and then leave BHS (if it is not your day to stay on campus of course).   This is not required of students but it would greatly benefit the students and the band program as a whole as we may only see some individual students in class during the day once a week on the Hybrid model AND our curriculum is very much performance based.  Just an option.

M100 INSTRUMENTAL PRIVATE LESSON SCHOLARSHIPS!

As a result of your fundraising efforts and generous donations, the BHS Band Boosters are excited to be able to offer private lesson scholarships to our woodwind, brass, and percussion students!

The Belton High School Band Private Lesson Scholarship program is designed to help students offset the financial impact of private lesson study.  If awarded, the scholarship will cover half of the student’s weekly private lesson fee.  The student financial responsibility will be reduced 50% per lesson.  The student portion of payment should be paid directly to the private lesson teacher at the beginning of each month or whenever the lesson teacher has requested payment be made.

For access to the Lesson Scholarship Application - please go here:  https://www.beltonmarching100.com

You can also find contact information for our Private Lesson Teachers here:  https://www.beltonmarching100.com/private-lesson-instructors

ALL PRIVATE LESSONS WILL BE CONDUCTED VIRTUALLY UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

Parents need to contact lesson teachers directly to set up private lessons.

Lessons are STRONGLY encouraged for musical advancement but ESPECIALLY this year when the amount of time we the directors will spend with students will be greatly reduced (especially in the hybrid model).  Thank you!

*Online form is not fillable (sorry-I don’t have Adobe).  I will have paper copies in the band hall if you need.  Return forms to Mrs. Gill (or email to shannon.gill@bisd.net)

ALL-REHEARSALS, GAMES, CONTESTS

All on the band calendar.  Please check weekly to ensure you know what’s going on for the week!

  ALL - COVID-19 PRE-SCREENING QUESTIONS

All parents are required to screen their children everyday before sending them to school for any reason.  Please notify shannon.gill@bisd.net if your child cannot attend practice due to symptoms or exposure to a positive or presumed positive case of COVID-19.  I will notify our campus nurse and she will contact you as per district policy.  Please do not send students if they have been experiencing any of the symptoms in this document:

WOODWINDS/BRASS/PERCUSSION - INSTRUMENT RENTAL FEES

If you are using a school owned instrument (including percussion), you will be assessed an instrument rental fee of $62.50 per instrument per semester.  We will ask for payment of these fees during the second week of school (Sept. 14th).  Payments will be delivered to Mrs. Gill and not paid through Charms.  Payments only in the form of cash (in an envelope with student’s name on it) or check made out to Belton HS Band.  Payments are deposited into an account to be used for repair and general maintenance on instruments.  Students will receive a form indicating the amount they owe in the coming weeks.

Thank you and please stay safe and healthy!
