Weekend Update 12-6-20

Dear M100 Family,

Hope everyone is enjoying your weekend. Congratulations to the M100 for an outstanding performance yesterday at the Area D 6A Marching Contest! We came in 4th place and 2nd alternate to State! We also received an Area finalist plaque. Overall the students did a terrific job and we, the staff, are super proud of all they’ve accomplished. In general, as I look back on the season, I feel we’ve grown as a family, as musicians, and performers and I saw a band who really enjoyed creating this Fiesta Espana show and loved the music and putting it all together. From Guard to Percussion to Woodwinds and Brass - I feel every section has grown and together have contributed to an overall excellent band program. I am thankful for the opportunity we have had to have this marching season and work on this show together, for the students, our terrific staff of directors and techs, and for our incredible booster program, super-supportive community, parents, and administration! All of these elements have to be in place for student and program growth and success. Ultimately, I hope the students had an awesome experience this year and felt nothing but complete joy and satisfaction as they marched off that field yesterday. I marched right alongside each of them while watching and they filled my heart with pride every second.

Thank you to all.

AND - Congrats to our brothers and sisters at LBHS - they came in 5th place and are advancing to the 4A State Marching Band Contest in San Antonio on Dec. 14th! Please wish them luck the next time you see them! A terrific accomplishment their first year out!

AREA CONTEST VIDEO AND JUDGE COMMENTS

MARCHING UNIFORMS

Please bring them back and hang them on the appropriate rack in the band hall if you did not ride the bus back from contest yesterday.

TOY DRIVE

Instead of doing a Secret Santa type gift exchange amongst students, I would like to ask that any student who can, bring an unwrapped new toy and put it under our band hall Christmas tree to collect toys for children this year who may not get a nice Christmas due to the financial hardships COVID has caused for so many families. Toy drive starts this Monday and will run for these last two weeks of school. Our band boosters will collect the toys and donate them to this charity. Thank you for your generosity this Christmas season!

WIND ENSEMBLE REHEARSALS STARTING 2ND SEMESTER

Just a reminder that those students who make Wind Ensemble (our most advanced ensemble) will need to report to school by 8am starting on January 25th, 2021. Our class would then run from 8am-9:30am. This has been mentioned in class for many months now. Parents - please let me know if transportation will be an issue for your family. Our current class period is only 45 minutes and this is in no way enough time for us to prepare the level of music that is appropriate and challenging for this varsity level group. As with other varsity level activities, it is instructionally appropriate that we start early so we can get the same amount of instructional time (90 minutes) as other varsity 6A level groups. Thank you.
