While we understand the importance of this course to many, we ask that you please take advantage of the one date (9/25) that does not conflict with band activities. MONDAY, SEPT. 27 - AFTER SCHOOL REHEARSAL

M100 students will need to avoid traveling through the Commons for after school rehearsal this day. The BISD Superintendent will be hosting a dinner there that evening. Students can go around the school outside or access the back of the school by going through the doors between the large and small gym. We will have directional signs to help you. The Front Ensemble will stay inside the band hall.

A Panoramic Picture will be taken by the Goldbeck Co. in our band practice field on Friday, Oct. 1st at 5:45pm (before the game). Students will be in full traditional uniform (no shakos) with instruments. Students may purchase a picture if they want.

RETURN TO PARTICIPATION AFTER A COVID DIAGNOSIS - WOODWINDS/BRASS/PERCUSSION/COLORGUARD:

(This was sent out Friday, Aug. 27th)

We only need a note from a doctor IF your child had a positive diagnosis of COVID from a doctor.

This is the process we will use regarding a student returning (after a positive COVID diagnosis) to participation in band (includes Colorguard) STARTING MONDAY, AUGUST 30TH -

NOT RETROACTIVE.

  • IF your child has been diagnosed as COVID positive, when they are ready to return (based on the criteria explained by our school nurses), please have them bring a doctor's note - signed by a physician - saying that they are cleared to return to activity in band. THEY ARE TO BRING THIS NOTE TO ME-MRS. GILL. This is not a physical, this is a note from a doctor stating they are free from infection and able to return to the band and Colorguard activity.

  • I, Mrs. Gill, will make a copy of this note and give the original to our campus nurses so that they can inform those who need to know that your child is cleared to return. This includes proper coding in Skyward to reflect that they are back on campus and not at home.

The doctor's note allowing students to return to participation is a state UIL requirement this semester.

Thank you very much for your flexibility and understanding as we navigate through recent challenges.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Thank you!

NO PASS / NO PLAY - ELIGIBILITY FOR ALL STUDENTS IN EXTRACURRICULARS

Eligibility - participation at games and contests is included in the No Pass / No Play rule.

PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY.

Here is the timeline for grade checks, etc.:

  • Sept. 24 - Grade Check. IF you are passing all regular credit classes with a 70 or higher, you are eligible until Oct. 15th (report card day). IF you are not passing all reg. classes with a 70 or higher, you cannot go to the Oct. 1 game, Oct. 2 contest, Oct. 8 game, and Oct. 9 contest.

  • Oct. 15th - If you ARE passing on this date, you are eligible until the next report card on Dec. 17th!

IF you were ineligible from the last grade check but are now eligible, you can come to the Oct. 15th game (against Temple) AND Region Contest on Oct. 16th....

  • IF you were ineligible at the last grade check (9/24) and are still ineligible as of 10/15, you are out until Dec. 17th (not able to go to any games/contests).

  • IF you are not passing on Oct. 15th, you will not be able to go to the game on Oct. 21, the game on Oct. 28th, and the Area contest on Oct. 30th.

YOU HAVE TO PASS ON BOTH SEPT. 24TH AND OCT. 15TH -

TWO MAJOR GRADE CHECKS FOR UIL IN THE FALL SEMESTER.

Bottom Line - PASS ALL YOUR CLASSES BY THE SEPT. 24TH AND OCT. 15TH GRADE CHECKS AND

YOU ARE ELIGIBLE FOR THE WHOLE MARCHING SEASON!

*Please ask a director if you have any questions about how these eligibility rules work.

Thank you!

PARTICIPATION IN MARCHING BAND - AFTER SCHOOL REHEARSALS

  • Always bring your gallon jug of water to rehearsals and hydrate all day!

  • Eat healthy meals throughout the day

  • If a student has to sit out of practice for more than 20 minutes, we will call home and ask for that student to be picked up or ask them to leave practice (if they drive).

  • If a student is not able to participate, for health or other reasons, consistently (reoccurring issue - many days or weeks in a row, for example), a parent conference (live, zoom, or phone call) will be scheduled to discuss whether or not the student is able to continue in the organization and what that participation might look like. Band is a physical activity and students must be in good physical condition and take care of themselves to participate.

WIND ENSEMBLE MEMBERS

Please remember that 1st period will be starting at 8am when we return from Winter Break (January). Please arrange for transportation now and let Mrs. Gill know if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you!
