Dear M100 Family,
Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend! Thanks to all who made Friday night’s game a success! Thank you to our incredible parent volunteers who helped with everything from running the kettle corn booth to helping with props, front ensemble, and chaperone duties for the game! Probably at least 30 adults (or more) helped out on Friday! Awesome - we can’t do it without you! Thanks to our awesome students for their performance at halftime AND for doing such a great job with the Middle Schoolers who attended the game and performed with us in the stands! Their directors told me that they had a blast and were so happy they were able to experience that with you guys!
We will have our monthly Band Booster meeting at 7pm in the BHS Commons tomorrow (9-13-21). ALL are invited to attend. Please come by and be an active part of the boosters! They are awesome!
Thanks so much!
CALENDAR CHANGES - PLEASE MARK YOUR CALENDARS (and it’s on our band calendar on the website)
1. The week of Sept. 27th (had to change the rehearsal times due to Homecoming "Burning of the B" activity that week):
Monday, 9-27: 5-7:30pm
Tuesday, 9-28: 5-8pm
Wednesday 9-29: 5-7:30pm
Thursday 9-30: "Burning of the B pep rally outside". More details to come
2. The week of October 11th:
This is the week of our UIL Region Contest (that Saturday 10/16). We, the directors, have seen that there are two days (Monday and Tuesday) of that week in which the students have off but we simply cannot cancel practice on both of those days due to the impending contest that Sat. SO.....
in compromise, we've updated the calendar to reflect the following schedule:
Monday, Oct. 11 - no rehearsal
Tuesday, Oct. 12 - 5-8pm
Wednesday, Oct. 13 - 5-7:30pm
Thursday, Oct. 14 - 5-7:30pm
Friday, Oct. 15 - Game against Temple
Saturday, Oct. 16 - UIL Region Marching Contest
*As I've mentioned before, we had to add several Wednesdays this year as that is the only day we were allowed to schedule stadium rehearsals AND we've had a few weeks with Mondays off so we have to utilize those Wednesdays. So sorry for the inconvenience. Thank you!
REMINDER: CONTEST DATES (PLEASE do not schedule anything else for these days):
October: 2, 9, 16, and 30
RETURN TO PARTICIPATION AFTER A COVID DIAGNOSIS - WOODWINDS/BRASS/PERCUSSION/COLORGUARD:
(This was sent out Friday, Aug. 27th)
We only need a note from a doctor IF your child had a positive diagnosis of COVID from a doctor.
This is the process we will use regarding a student returning (after a positive COVID diagnosis) to participation in band (includes Colorguard) STARTING MONDAY, AUGUST 30TH -
NOT RETROACTIVE.
IF your child has been diagnosed as COVID positive, when they are ready to return (based on the criteria explained by our school nurses), please have them bring a doctor's note - signed by a physician - saying that they are cleared to return to activity in band. THEY ARE TO BRING THIS NOTE TO ME-MRS. GILL. This is not a physical, this is a note from a doctor stating they are free from infection and able to return to the band and Colorguard activity.
I, Mrs. Gill, will make a copy of this note and give the original to our campus nurses so that they can inform those who need to know that your child is cleared to return. This includes proper coding in Skyward to reflect that they are back on campus and not at home.
The doctor's note allowing students to return to participation is a state UIL requirement this semester.
Thank you very much for your flexibility and understanding as we navigate through recent challenges.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Thank you!

PARTICIPATION IN MARCHING BAND - AFTER SCHOOL REHEARSALS
Always bring your gallon jug of water to rehearsals and hydrate all day!
Eat healthy meals throughout the day
If a student has to sit out of practice for more than 20 minutes, we will call home and ask for that student to be picked up or ask them to leave practice (if they drive).
If a student is not able to participate, for health or other reasons, consistently (reoccurring issue - many days or weeks in a row, for example), a parent conference (live, zoom, or phone call) will be scheduled to discuss whether or not the student is able to continue in the organization and what that participation might look like. Band is a physical activity and students must be in good physical condition and take care of themselves to participate.
WIND ENSEMBLE MEMBERS
Please remember that 1st period will be starting at 8am when we return from Winter Break (January). Please arrange for transportation now and let Mrs. Gill know if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you!
