PARTICIPATION IN MARCHING BAND AFTER SCHOOL REHEARSALS - HEALTH AND SAFETY
Some students have been sitting out and not participating in after school rehearsals for extended periods of time due to heat issues and/or potential illness. We always have extra water available at rehearsals and our students have set up a canopy to provide some shade. Water breaks are taken at 20-25 minute intervals but students may always get off the field to drink water whenever they need. Students MUST bring their M100 water jug (or another gallon-sized jug) filled with water to every rehearsal AND they should be hydrating with water throughout the day before and after marching rehearsals to ensure they don’t get dehydrated at practice. Students should eat healthy meals throughout the day for energy.
Safety and student well-being is our top priority so if a director is made aware of a situation where a student is not actively participating in the rehearsal process for an extended period of time (20 minutes or more), the director will ask the student to call a parent or guardian if they are able, or the director will call, and request that student be picked up as soon as possible.
If a student is not able to participate, for health or other reasons, consistently (reoccurring issue - many days or weeks in a row, for example), a parent conference (live, zoom, or phone call) will be scheduled to discuss whether or not the student is able to continue in the organization and what that participation might look like. Band is a physical activity and students must be in good physical condition and take care of themselves to participate.
Again - health and safety are our top priorities for each and every student. If a student is ill or is not able to participate due to physical issues, we want to help ensure the student is able to get the care they need, to recover, and get back to participating. We also want to ensure the safety of other students in the program and try to keep airborne illnesses from spreading. Thank you for your support of your child’s musical experience and for helping us ensure the safety and good health of all involved!
