Weekend Update 5-8-22

Dear M100 Family,

This has been a most difficult week. We hope that all of our students at BHS are being taken care of and feeling supported and comforted at this time. We, as a strong band family, will take care of each other and will keep everyone’s safety, physical, and emotional well-being as a priority going forward as we move on together to the end of the school year.

Please read on for new information and a review of the information shared with you all on Friday, May 6th about changes to our up-coming rehearsals, auditions, and events. Thank you.

(If your child receives an award, gets accepted into college, or earns another other sort of distinction, let us know! We are proud and happy to highlight all the great things about our students!)

UPDATES REGARDING FUTURE REHEARSALS/AUDITIONS/EVENTS/SAFETY - PLEASE READ!!!

Audition Preparations - Monday, May 9 - Thursday, May 12 - the band hall will be available for those who are auditioning for Section Leader and/or Drum Major from 4:25pm-5:45pm to practice and receive help from student leaders and directors. Please sign up daily before the end of the school day so we know who to expect (sign up sheets will be available in the band hall).

BDL (Drumline) auditions - rescheduled to occur on May 11th during class (B day). A day students - schedule your audition with Mr. Smith.

Drum Major auditions - rescheduled to occur during classes on May 17th. (B day) Make-up date on the 19th (B day).

Section Leader auditions - rescheduled to occur during classes on May 18th (A day), 19th (B day) and 23rd (B day). Section Leader results will be announced after the Banquet.

Jazz Concert - this will not be a stand-alone concert. We will add the HS Jazz Band to our Spring Concert on May 13th. Repertoire details will be discussed in class on May 9th.

Spring Band Concert will remain on May 13th.

Percussion Concert (including MS students) will remain on May 16th

Spring Game is still on for May 19th

Band Banquet will remain on May 20th

Enhanced Safety Measures:

*For Wind Ensemble students - we will start rehearsals beginning on Monday, May 9th at 8:15am. This will continue until May 13th. You will need to enter through the front doors of the school which open at 8am. Please enter the band hall through the doors closest to the commons. Please do not be late and when you arrive in the band hall, grab your instrument and begin warming up immediately as we are losing rehearsal time. Guidance will be given at a later date as to the start time for Wind Ensemble after May 13th.

*For All - the doors to the band hall nearest the outside exit doors/colorguard room will remain locked from the outside. ALL students need to enter the band hall through the doors closest to the commons. DO not attempt to enter the band hall through the Orchestra room. That space will be locked as well.

*For All - you will need to enter the building through the Front Doors of the school. IF we have an event or you need access to the band hall before 8am or after school is out, other arrangements will be made.

*For All - NO students will be allowed in the band hall who are not BAND STUDENTS. No exceptions will be made for siblings, friends, etc.

*For All - NO students will be allowed to come to the band hall when it is not their band or colorguard class time. You must remain in your other class, even if you're "not doing anything in that class that day", or "your teacher doesn't care, just send her an email" "l, or "we have a sub today and aren't doing anything". We have been instructed by administration to keep students from roaming the halls and teachers need to keep students in their classrooms and monitor those they are responsible for. We will do the same. We are sorry it has come to this but this is how we must proceed.

*For All - NO students in the band hall for tiger time without a pass and before 2:45pm for any reason. Students will receive instruction from campus administration as to whether or not they will be allowed to move to other spaces during tiger time. This is out of our control.

*For All - NO students in the band hall before/during/or after school if there is not a director present. This hasn't been an issue but we want to put it in writing especially as we near the end of the school when there might be at least one day when there isn't something after school in the band hall.
