Dear M100 Family,
Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday with family and friends! Congrats to our students who participated in the All Region Jazz Concert on Nov. 20th! Outstanding performances! Hard to believe but we only have 3 more weeks of school until the long Winter Break! New info. about Region Band auditions, Winter Concerts and more….please read on!
ALL REGION BAND AUDITIONS THIS COMING SATURDAY, DEC. 4TH
Region Band auditions are this Saturday, Dec. 4th at Harker Heights HS. We will provide a bus for all who are auditioning. Please see the timeline below. This contest is for those who have been preparing the audition music and have been registered to audition by a band director. Please see this list of auditionees and check for accuracy:
Timeline:
8am - auditioning students arrive at BHS Band Hall
8:10am - board buses leaving for Harker Heights HS
8:45am - arrive at contest site (HHHS)
9:20am - judge’s meeting (all band directors are judging - students stay in warm-up area)
10am - judging begins
*Contest end time - PLEASE READ! - this varies from room to room. Students will find their contest room and will remain in there until all students have finished their audition. If a room has lots of students, it may take several hours for everyone in the room to finish. Students audition on each etude in rotation - this is not like middle school auditions in which students have an assigned time and they perform all of their selections in one slot. The process will be explained to all students in classes this week, however, if a high school student has auditioned in person before at the high school level, it is the same process. (last year was all virtual - think prior to 2020).
Because students will finish at various times during the day, WE WOULD LIKE TO EXTEND THE OPPORTUNITY FOR STUDENTS TO BE PICKED UP from the contest when they are finished, rather than have to wait until all students AND judges (us directors) are finished (which could be as late as 5pm). STUDENTS MAY NOT DRIVE THEMSELVES OR OTHER STUDENTS. SIBLINGS MAY PICK UP STUDENTS WITH PRIOR WRITTEN PERMISSION FROM A PARENT. My estimation of when everything at the contest is finished is about 5pm but it could be earlier or later.
In order for us to safely allow students to be picked up early, we must have at least one parent volunteer to get parent signatures as they are picking up their child from the cafeteria at Harker Heights. Two volunteers would be ideal. One can be there all day if necessary.
Here are the shifts:
1st shift: 11am - 2pm
2nd shift: 2pm-5pm (estimation)
Volunteers would wear an M100 chaperone badge and would have a sheet of auditionees where the parent can sign them out to leave with them. Students must be picked up from the cafeteria at Harker Heights and you must sign them out on the form with the chaperone. This is for the safety of the student. We cannot provide this opportunity without at least one volunteer. The volunteer would need to acquire the badge and list BEFORE the judges meeting on the 4th. Judges (Directors) won’t be available after 9:20am that day.
PLEASE EMAIL shannon.gill@bisd.net IF YOU CAN VOLUNTEER FOR A SHIFT ON DEC. 4TH (must be an approved volunteer through BISD).
IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO PICK UP YOUR CHILD AFTER THEY ARE FINISHED AUDITIONING, (instead of them riding the bus back) PLEASE FILL OUT THIS GOOGLE FORM: https://forms.gle/LKqsc3ktM6yqrqDFA
THIS FORM WILL DEACTIVATE ON DEC. 3RD AT MIDNIGHT.

FRESHMAN REGION BAND AUDITIONS ON SAT.,DEC. 11TH - SHOEMAKER HIGH SCHOOL
These are different from the All Region Band Auditions. These auditions are for Freshman only and the following students have requested to be signed up (please check for accuracy):
NO BUS PROVIDED FOR THESE FRESHMAN AUDITIONS. PLEASE PROVIDE YOUR OWN TRANSPORTATION. Please email shannon.gill@bisd.net if you are unable to provide transportation to or from this audition - PLEASE let us know ahead of time and don’t just not show up - we can help if we have some lead time.
Timeline:
8:15am - students should arrive at Shoemaker HS and proceed to the warm-up room
9:00am - contest begins
*End Time - again, this varies based on the number of students auditioning in a room, the speed of the auditions, etc. Students need to have a cell phone with them (turned off while auditioning) so they can call to be picked up when they are finished in their individual rooms.
Audition process is the same as the All Region auditions and will be explained to students in band classes this week.

FORMAL WEAR FOR THE BAND CONCERT ON DEC. 10
Almost all Band students have been fitted for either a tuxedo or concert dress for our Winter Concert on Dec. 10th. Fittings will continue in band classes this week. This is also the uniform we will wear for the UIL Contest in April. These items stay at school just like the marching uniform. If your child will be wearing a tuxedo as their concert wear uniform, you will need to provide a white, button down long sleeve shirt to wear under the jacket. We do not have those to issue out to students. Here are some examples of what is acceptable. Please acquire this shirt prior to the Dec. 10th Concert.
Tux Shirt (Amazon) - https://www.amazon.com/Neil-Allyn-Tuxedo-Cotton-Collar/dp/B00BEJ6IW0/ref=sr_1_7?crid=4C6TFKA08WIO&keywords=tux+shirts+for+men&qid=1638116283&sprefix=tux+shirt%2Caps%2C201&sr=8-7
Long sleeve, button down white shirt (Target) -
Students in tuxedos will also need to provide long black socks and nice black dress shoes.
Students who will wear the Concert Dress should wear closed-toed black low heel shoes. If the student wishes to wear something in the hair (bow, headband, etc.), please ensure it is black and/or not distracting from the overall professional concert look. Questions - please ask a director! Thank you!
Band and Colorguard students will have the opportunity to enjoy desserts and dancing following the holiday concert on Friday, December 10th. The event will begin after the concert and will conclude at 10pm. Students may invite one guest who is not an M100 member to attend the event with them. All students must RSVP using the google form link below - YOU MUST REPLY SO WE KNOW HOW MANY DESSERTS TO PLAN FOR, ETC. THANK YOU!!!!
BAND BOOSTER GARAGE SALE - 12/4/21
The boosters are having a garage sale on Saturday, December 4th at 3052 Summit Drive in Belton. This fundraising event will be focused on the sale of holiday and home decor. Lamps, framed art, side tables, rugs, gift bags, Christmas trees, and ornaments are a few examples of items that would be great for our sale. You may drop off items in the parking lot in front of the band hall on Sunday, November 28th from 7-8pm, or on Wednesday, December 1st from 7-8pm. Please price your items before dropping them off and refrain from donating damaged items. We hope to have another sale in the spring, so save your clothing, toys and kitchen items for a later date.
