ELIGIBILITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The first eligibility check was yesterday, 10/16.  I’ve received further clarification recently from Administration and any assignments submitted up to 4:25pm yesterday can be counted toward student’s grades for eligibility purposes. Late assignments cannot be accepted after 4:25pm yesterday and count toward a student’s six week’s grade for eligibility purposes. Teachers are allowed to continue taking late work from students that can be applied to their grade, it just cannot impact their eligibility.  Teachers have until Tuesday at 4pm to get grades entered into Skyward. Gradebooks lock at 5pm on Tuesday.  Skyward is down for updates until 6pm tonight from what I’ve heard.

Students who fail one or more regular credit classes (doesn’t include most Advanced and all PAP and AP courses) once grades are final, will have to stop participating in band functions (games/contests) at 4:25pm on 10/23/20.  This means they cannot go to the game with the band on that day.  We directors will talk to these students personally whether live or virtually to make sure they know.

All students may participate in the Pep Rally on 10/21 whether they are eligible or not.

Students who have an Incomplete in Skyward for the 6 weeks, have one week to make up their work and get it turned in - must have all missing work to teachers by 4:25pm on 10/23/20.

BAND UNIFORMS - READ ALL OF THIS PLEASE!

We will wear our uniforms for the game this coming Friday.  Here’s the Plan:

  • Go to the band hall after the rehearsal on Mon. 10/19 and pick up your uniform in it’s bag.  You won’t need the hat (shako).

  • Take the uniform home and hang it up in your closet so it doesn’t wrinkle

  • Dress completely before coming to school for inspection Friday, 10/23.  You will wear appropriate under clothes - can be your M100 unders or any short shorts(black) that don’t bunch up under your marching pants and short sleeved, tight-fitting top or tank top that is solid black.  If you feel you might get very cold, you can wear a long-sleeved long underwear type top but your under clothes need to be tight-fitting.  Under clothes must not show from under the uniform.

  • Uniform consists of:   marching jacket, marching bibbers (pants), long black socks (you provide), and marching shoes (you have purchased).  (appropriate unders as discussed above).  We will wear PINK gloves for this game to show support for breast cancer research. They will be in your uniform bag - outside zipper pocket.

  • Hair - Girls - long hair will be back in a low, tight bun as discussed in previous weekend updates.  We will put a clip-on rose in your hair to compliment the show theme for halftime.  Boys with long hair will need to make sure it is not in your face and is off the collar.  Come see a director if you have long hair and we will advise.

  • NO JEWELRY.  NOT EVEN SMALL STUDS PLEASE.  NO EARRINGS, NECKLACES, BRACELETS, RINGS, ETC.  Come talk to a director if you have to wear medical jewelry or have some other extenuating circumstance.

  • Come to school on 10/23 at the appropriate time for inspection fully dressed with your instrument, flip folder, and water bottle filled with water.  LEAVE YOUR UNIFORM BAG AT HOME.  You will wear your uniform home after the game.  At HOME - hang it up neatly on it’s hangers and do not put it in it’s bag - let it air out!  DO NOT LAUNDER.

  • RETURN THE UNIFORM MONDAY, 10/26 when you come to school or after school before you head to the marching field for practice.  You will hang it up on it’s proper rack in it’s bag.

BAND AUDITIONS FOR SPRING 2021

As we said last semester, we would have formal auditions this coming December to ensure we have proper placement for the Spring bands and to allow our students an audition opportunity since we were unable to do so during the Spring quarantine.

Our band auditions will  be done in the form of video recording submissions due to some of our members being  at-home learners and to ensure the auditions are fair across the board.

Audition music excerpts and instructions will be made available to all students on November 2nd.  Hard copies will be available and the information will also be posted to our website.

Auditions will take place during the week of December 7-11.

Schedule changes could occur for Spring 2021 based on the results of these auditions.  Please be prepared.  Thank you!

BOOSTER POSITION OPEN

Due to unforeseen circumstances, our Booster Treasurer position is open. If any band parent  (from middle school to high school) would be interested in volunteering for the position, please email our Booster Pres. Sharon Cobb at sharon.cobb@bisd.net.

M100 INSTRUMENTAL PRIVATE LESSON SCHOLARSHIPS!

As a result of your fundraising efforts and generous donations, the BHS Band Boosters are excited to be able to offer private lesson scholarships to our woodwind, brass, and percussion students!

The Belton High School Band Private Lesson Scholarship program is designed to help students offset the financial impact of private lesson study.  If awarded, the scholarship will cover half of the student’s weekly private lesson fee.  The student financial responsibility will be reduced 50% per lesson.  The student portion of payment should be paid directly to the private lesson teacher at the beginning of each month or whenever the lesson teacher has requested payment be made.

For access to the Lesson Scholarship Application - please go here:  https://www.beltonmarching100.com

You can also find contact information for our Private Lesson Teachers here:  https://www.beltonmarching100.com/private-lesson-instructors

ALL PRIVATE LESSONS WILL BE CONDUCTED VIRTUALLY UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

Parents need to contact lesson teachers directly to set up private lessons.

Lessons are STRONGLY encouraged for musical advancement but ESPECIALLY this year when the amount of time we the directors will spend with students will be greatly reduced (especially in the hybrid model).  Thank you!

*Online form is not fillable (sorry-I don’t have Adobe).  I will have paper copies in the band hall if you need.  Return forms to Mrs. Gill (or email to shannon.gill@bisd.net)
