Weekend Update 1-9-22

Updated: Jan 10, 2022

Dear M100 Family,

Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend! We are back in school and it’s already shaping up to be an Awesome semester! Congratulations to all of the band students who participated in the TMEA Area D auditions yesterday at Duncanville HS. We are so proud of your hard work and accomplishments. We hope the process of auditioning for All Region and Area have helped you grow as a musician. Congratulations to Angel Rios-Torres who came in 2nd chair in his room and is a 1st Alternate to State on Euphonium. Congratulations to our 3 TMEA 6A All-State Band Members: Ethan Rasmussen (1st chair percussion), Jacob Wiley (1st chair French Horn), and Sam Fothergill (3rd chair percussion)! Incredibly proud of these guys! The 3 All Staters will perform with one of the Texas Music Educators Association All State Bands, Orchestras, or Percussion Ensemble at the TMEA Convention in February. This is an extremely high honor for a TX High School musician. A little trivia - BHS has not had 3 All State Band members since 1971! The Spring semester has begun and it will be a busy one! Please read on!

REGION 8 ALL-REGION BAND CLINICS & CONCERT - THIS FRIDAY AND SATURDAY!

Please review your All Region information letter. ALSO - read below:

Saturday, Jan. 15 - meet at BHS band hall at 6:45am. (rehearsals start at 8am) Bring your concert formal wear in the uniform bag. Bring money for lunch.

*PARENTS - if you will attend the concert and want to take your child home with you rather than them riding the bus back, email shannon.gill@bisd.net by Friday, Jan. 14th to let me know. Please also check the student out with either me or Mr. Kwaku at the conclusion of their concert. We will be in the auditorium foyer. Students may ride the bus back to BHS if they wish. We probably won’t return until around 7:30 or 8pm.

BAND BOOSTER MEETING - TOMORROW JAN. 10TH - 6:30PM

* The January booster club meeting will be held on January 10th at 6:30pm in the Commons. Plan to stay a few minutes after the meeting if you are interested in being a part of next year's executive committee. We will have an informal Q&A session about each of the positions.

* Please consider supporting our 5K race as a participant or a donor. The AJ Howard Memorial Race will be on Saturday, February 19th in downtown Belton. You can sign up as a participant in the 5K or 2-person 5K relay, or you can also sign up as a "sleep-in" participant. This option allows you to donate your registration fee without running in the race! Finally, we are looking for companies or individuals to become t-shirt sponsors for our race. Contact cassie.fothergill@gmail.com or (254-913-2602) for more information. Sign up or learn more about this race at https://runsignup.com/Race/TX/Belton/AJHowardMemorial5K
